Introduction/ Background
The global climate change talk in the last twenty-eight (28) years was geared towards low carbon and resources trajectory. This has culminated in the zero carbon pathways as espoused in the COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021 and with strong global support as witnessed in the recently concluded COP 28 in Dubai. Green City Africa Climate Action Initiative in collaboration with Port Harcourt Green Enclave Ltd is therefore mainstreaming Climate Change and Green Economy Initiatives in Real Estate Development for sustainable revenue generation and digital assets trade, thereby providing pathway to government’s Net Zero Goal. This is a unique Climate Action that meets the United Nation’s SDGs 1-2, SDGs 11 and 13, a sustainable and significant response to Climate Justice, thereby satisfying the three dimensions (Environmental, Social and Economic) of UN SDGs.

Nigeria faces the greatest environmental risk and climate crisis due to long-term impact of oil explorations and mining activities. Our mission is to fight decisively, the climate crisis and its deadly impacts in Nigeria and beyond, and to make real estate a highly liquid investment option through development of Green Cities and leveraging both blockchain technology and the multi-billion-dollar global carbon market. Details of how to harvest and leverage the Carbon Credit to develop Port Harcourt Green City and others across Nigeria and Africa shall be presented during the GIR Abuja Event.

PROSPECTS & MILESTONES:

1. Letter of No Objection from the Federal Ministry of Environment, Department of Climate Change (DCC) with 1,162,339TCo2e (carbon credits per annum).
2. 1,000 hectares of land for the pilot real estate carbon project – PORT HARCOURT GREEN CITY
3. Over 20,000 hectares in 6 other states including Lagos and Abuja, for the replication of our model green cities and agroforestry systems which would fulfill SDG 11 and 13 on building sustainable cities and climate action
4. Baseline study for Agroforestry system in Nigeria
5. Minting of our governance token (GCity) which has democratic features such as enabling members to participate in climate action by proposing and voting on projects and decisions.
6. Collaboration with Man O’ War and The Scout Association of Nigeria for Climate change campaign.
7. Other credible and ongoing collaborations among public and private institutions in Nigeria, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.
